Stan Mabry Does It Again! 2016 IBJJF Worlds Masters Champion

Brentwood Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy's Stan Mabry has done it again!  Stan, 60 year old owner of Stanford Fine Art and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competitor, has won his brown belt division at the IBJJF Worlds Masters Tournament.  Stan has won the Worlds Masters Tournament at the blue, purple, and now brown belt ranks!  In addition, Stan left each belt rank as the number 1 ranked competitor in each of his divisions!  Last, but certainly not least, with this latest victory Stan was promoted by Professor Akin to the rank of black belt on the winner's podium!  Congratulations Stan on this incredible achievement!

Brentwood BJJ: Battle for the Blue Belt

On November 5th, 2016, Brentwood Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Academy's first ever in-house "Battle for the Blue belt" tournament will be going down.  Using the IBJJF ruleset, this in-house open weight tournament will feature two teams of white belts coached by Coach Miles Kirby and Coach Randall Sanders.  At the end of the team match ups, the team coaches will compete against each other in an additional battle of the coaches!  The only question is...are you Team Miles or Team Randall?!

2016 IBJJF World's Experience

On my way back from California today... Reflecting back on the entire experience at the 2016 IBJJF World Championship.

It's a great sport we are a part of and full of amazing people from everywhere. As a kid I couldn't have imagined my life being this positive and rewarding.

I'd like to thank everyone that's been involved in this journey. My father Jim Akin for giving me the belief in myself and my Professor Luiz Palhares for supporting me along the way even through the hard times. Of course a huge thanks goes to my students and training partners. Even the ones that aren't training anymore. You've all taught me a lot.

The past few years we've built something special together. With this solid foundation we can achieve anything. We took a group of young new blue and white belts. Everyone performed well. So much momentum going into the next season. I hope everyone has enjoyed this process as much as I have

Team Luiz Palhares!!

See what our students are saying

Just had my first Jiu-Jitsu competition over the weekend in the ATL. When I first decided to compete saying I was nervous would be an understatement, I haven't competed in a tournament since high school wrestling over 20 years ago. All kinds of negative thought where going through my head. With Professor Jeremy and the rest of my Jiu-Jitsu brothers and sisters we where able to put a game plan together. The closer we got to the tournament the less worried I was about winning or losing because I was just focused on executing what we practiced. Other than some performance anxiety I felt as ready as I could be, win or lose. I can't thank Professor Jeremy and the rest of our family enough for drilling with me,  trouble shooting, staying late, answering questions, and teaching me new techniques. But what I am most thankful for is for what all those things gave me....the state of mind when the match started to think "hey, do your best, if things aren't going your way, roll with it, do your best to get out, your team is still behind you 100%" I can't thank you guys enough for the feeling that gave me to be able to think like that. If you are physically able to compete in a tournament, even if its just once, I definitely recommend it, the experience is well worth it. And I couldn't be happier to share this experience with everyone at Brentwood Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I love you guys. Osssss!
